Essential CFO Job Functions

 

Responsibilities and Specific Performance Standards:

 

1. Oversees all functions within the assigned departments in compliance with system philosophy, policies and objectives.

 

            a. Accepts responsibility for the organization, direction and evaluation of assigned departments.
            b. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in the performance of managerial assessment and problem solving.
            c. Establishes and monitors goals for each fiscal year for assigned department.

            d. Develops and maintains through department directors cost effective personnel, operating and capital budgets.
            e. Demonstrates expertise in written and verbal communication.
            f. Facilitates the implementation of change through ongoing assessment, counseling and evaluation.
            g. Performs duties as Administrator on C all as appropriate.

 

2. Formulates finance and accounting policy for the hospital in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

 

            a. Compiles and records the hospital financial affairs and prepares reports and analyses of  reports to designated people and agencies with assistance of                       staff.
            b. Makes recommendations and projections of hospital financial requirements.
            c. Uses accounting systems to provide complete and accurate records of hospital assets, liabilities and financial transactions, with assistance of staff.
            d. Prepares hospital operating budget, cash flow budget and long-range capital equipment expenditure budget, with assistance of staff.
            e. Prepares monthly hospital financial statements and statistical records for the President and Board of Directors, with assistance of staff.
            f. Prepares comparative departmental analysis reports from the budget for use by the President, Administrative Staff and Department Heads, with                                assistance of staff.
            g. Monitors cash flow and recommends improvements.
            h. Makes arrangements for hospital internal and external audits and provides assistance during audits.
            i. Develops, reviews, and negotiates managed care agreements and other contracts with legal counsel and/or other consultants.

 

3. Insures the employment, retention and development of qualified staff for all assigned departments.


            a. Plans, implements and evaluates recruitment and retention strategies.
            b. Provides ongoing support and guidance to staff and department directors.
            c. Participates in the orientation, development and evaluation of directors at all levels within  assigned departments.
            d. Prepares and conducts performance appraisals through ongoing counseling, feedback and documentation.
            e. Consistently and fairly applies personnel and hospital policies and procedures and assures that they are clearly communicated to employees.


4. Represents assigned departments within the organizational structure and in the community.


            a. Serves as a member of the organization’s senior leadership team.
            b. Assists in the development, implementation and coordination of the organization’s strategic planning, operational and financial goals, policies and                               procedures.
            c. Assists in the administration of organizational activities.
            d. Participates in assigned medical staff meetings and conferences.
            e. Represents the organization in professional and community activities.
            f. Prepares materials and directs certain Board Meetings and/or committee meetings as assigned by the President.
            g. Consults with and advises President on issues related to C MH and affiliated entities.


5. Assumes responsibility for own professional growth.


            a. Identifies educational and growth needs.
            b. Develops a plan for own professional growth.
            c. Reviews performance and revises career goals annually.
            d. Seeks opportunities for growth and learning that support and compliment the departmental and organizational goals.
            e. Performs and carries through to completion special projects/assignments delegated by the President.

 

6. Ensures that a culture of safety is practiced for all areas of responsibility.


            a. Ensures compliance with employee injuries process.
            b. Provides support and guidance in reporting of all occurrences.

            c. Responsible for staff completions of safety education.
